As a COLLECTIVE group of fans, and caring people, let’s all do something to help New Orleans “HEAL with SOUL”
It has been 4 years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, and there are still displaced people without homes, homes still not rebuilt, and communities still in shambles.. I had no idea this was the case after such a long period of time, and with all the money that had been raised or given by the government.
When Hurricane Katrina happened, I felt compelled to do something, anything, to help. The first thing I did was to donate blood. Then I decided to organize an auction and donate all the money to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Survivors Fund. My favorite band, Collective Soul, was coming to Vancouver so I decided to combine my love of the band and my desire to help. I purchased and donated a couple of guitars and some drumsticks. I paid to have sketches made of Dean, Ed, Joel, Will and Ryan. I contacted the band’s tour manager and made arrangements to get these items autographed by the band, then listed them on Ebay and managed to raise over $3000.
Recently while on Twitter, I saw a tweet from musician Josh Charles (@JoshCharles) (http://www.joshcharlesmusic.com/) asking us to help New Orleans again. He was donating the $0.99 Itunes download fee from his song “Healing Time”, and asked us to go download it. Dean Roland (@collective_soul) (http://www.collectivesoul.com/) (http://www.collectivesoulisback.com/) retweeted Josh’s request and he asked us to support Josh’s efforts. I was moved by the lyrics and how fitting they are to the situation in New Orleans. Josh also posted a link about this cause (http://www.prcno.org/) and after reading it I was once again inspired to become involved, and this auction was born.
Again I purchased items to be auctioned and had them autographed by Collective Soul when they came to Vancouver, BC Canada on October 23, 2009. I asked several of my twitter friends if they would like to participate in donating any items to the auction and had several positive replies. Unfortunately, due to some legal issues some had to retract their offer but Kathey King (@therealKAK) made and donated several items and I can’t thank her enough for her friendship and her support.
I also asked these same twitter friends their opinions on whether or not to put this auction onto Ebay or to try to do it on Twitter, and Twitter won hands down! So I decided to save the Ebay fees and access over 25,000 of Collective Soul’s fans following them on Twitter and do the auction here.
I also realize that not everyone is in a position to purchase one of these items, however you can still help. Tweet this blog, link it to your facebook or myspace or website pages, talk about it on the message boards or with your friends who may be interested. Or if you can, make a $0.99 donation by going to Itunes and downloading Josh Charles “Healing Time” (it’s a great song for a great cause). If everyone who is following Collective Soul and/or Josh Charles each contributed this $0.99 we would raise well over $25,000 and help make New Orleans “BETTER NOW”.

The items for auction are shown below. Bids will be accepted as posts to this blog. Please be sure to include which item number you are bidding on, your userid or email address, and the amount of your bid. The date/time of the post to the blog shall be the date of your bid. Bidding starts Monday November 16, 2009 at 9am Pacific and shall close Monday November 30, 2009 at 9pm Pacific. All prices are in $USD. Only Paypal will be accepted for payments.
NOTE: On Wednesday November 11, 2009 I was offered $1,000 for all the items in the auction, items unseen and without even any descriptions of what was for sale. In fairness to everyone, I could not take this offer as the auction had not started. It is now my hope that we will meet or exceed this offer once the bidding is open.
When the auction has closed, there will be a random drawing of all the bidders for a special, warm and fuzzy gift surprise.

Thanks to everyone who bid on the above items, as well as everyone who spread the word. If my adding is correct without a calculator the auction raised $1120 for New Orleans. I will contact everyone tomorrow who won for their mailing information so I can get prices on the shipping, and to make arrangements for payment.
ReplyDeleteI want to thank @therealKAK (Kathey King) for making and donating the bags to the auction -- I managed to win a couple too so I'm thrilled.
Thank you Ed and Dean Roland of Collective Soul for signing the items for me to auction.
Thank you Susan (@BuzzEdition) for coming to my rescue when Collective Soul was in Vancouver -- you know why!
And thank you Josh Charles! Your concern and caring for New Orleans inspired me to become involved for such a worth while cause.
Cathy
